- 10 Key Looks for Autumn/Winter 2008 -

Get the jump on Winter fashion this year with Debbie's US scouting report on what to wear now that the time to put away the singlets and cossies is upon us!

1. Black is well and truly back

'Black is chic, black is cool, black is fashion's handy tool'
- Janice Breen Burns. After a number of seasons that saw lots of strong, bright colours, black is back (again), along with similarly sombre shades of slate grey and burnt brown.

2. Textures

The trick to making this darker winter palette feel new again is to layer and combine tactile fabrics such as silk brocades, soft satins, chunky knits and plush velvets to luxurious effect.

3. Metallic trims and studs

Toughen up pretty silk dresses, pussy-bow blouses and slim-fitting pencil skirts with metallic trims, studs and rivets.

4. Blazers

With the sleeves pushed back and teamed with jeans and a tee, or worn on its own, oversized as a modern take on the shirt dress, the blazer heralds the return of classic tailoring.

5. Pants - Wide and high

The skinny-leg hipster has finally taken a bow as the high waisted, wide legged pant - a flashback to the silhouette first seen in the 70s - takes fashion's centre stage.

6. Patent Leather Everything!

Seen on everything from belts to boots, heels to handbags, this polished number is the perfect highlight for winter's muted colours.

7. Cone and Banana Heels

There is nothing fine or delicate about shoes for winter. The platform sole is sticking around for another season and devoted followers will not be disappointed, but also look out for the new heels on the block - banana and cone - that make striking silhouettes.

8. Colour - Jewel tones

9. Sheer Fabrics

10. Cinched waist
